Not in Nightingale Country

My first full-length collection, Not in Nightingale Country, is available from Red Squirrel Press.

It is available via the Red Squirrel Press website, price £8.99 (p&p free in the UK).

‘Drawing the reader into landscapes ancient and modern,
real and imagined, internal and external, this collection
takes an often dark, but often slyly humorous, view of the
world. The poems explore the secret places of memory and
imagination, creating new mythologies from their exact
observations of the every-day and their vivid evocations of
times past.’

The title of the collection recalls an Eng. Lit. lecturer, long
ago, who interrupted our tutorial to exclaim, But of course
you’ve never heard the nightingale, have you? You’re from
Scotland! Yes, I am, and no, I haven’t. But there are woods
to walk, voices to hear, stories to remember, even in places
where there are no nightingales; hence these poems.

You can hear two of the poems here:

And there is more elsewhere on the site about two more of them:
