I am a poet, writing in English and Scots, and based in Aberdeen.
I was born and brought up in Perthshire, and after studying English and Mediaeval History I became a librarian, a career I followed for a couple of decades before retraining for IT.
My preoccupations in poetry tend to be centred on history (especially early history) and landscape, particularly landscape as humans inhabit and try to shape it.
In addition to my own writing, I am involved in Pushing Out the Boat magazine and am one of the Editors of Poetry Scotland. I also co-organise of the monthly Poetry at Books and Beans events in Aberdeen (last Thursday of the month at Books and Beans in Belmont Street, for good poetry and excellent cakes!)
This site is intended as a place where I can share some of my work, and link to any of it that is published online. I won’t be blogging (with a displacement activity that good I would never finish a poem again) but I will be updating it with news about poetry and poetry events, my own and others’.
If you are interested in a reading or a workshop from me, I can be contacted through the contact form. I am registered with the Scottish Book Trust’s Live Literature programme, which gives financial support towards author visits.
